To quote an old Flintstones joke, I don't know what Sharon Stone got for making this picture, but she should have got life. Actually, her character, Cindy Liggett, has been sentenced to death for two murders she committed when she was 17. Now a model prisoner, her appeals have been spent and she is resigned to her execution. But her young lawyer (Rob Morrow) finds her appealing as well, and when he uncovers extenuating circumstances in her case, he races against time to have her sentence commuted. In yet another bid to be taken seriously, Stone is earnest in this unglamorous role, accent and all ("Ah doan wahn dah"), but whereas the superior Dead Man Walking grappled with moral and spiritual issues, this conventional, manipulative drama stacks the deck in Cindy's favor, making her the political pawn of a corrupt system. Optional. (K. Lee Benson)
