Written, acted, and shot by kids, this video follows a weekend in the life of 12-year-old Lorne, an everyday, average junior high student--he likes soccer, hip rock bands, the local carnival, and his friends. And, just like any other normal kid, he faces common peer pressures--especially the temptation to try smoking. Although somewhat hokey at times, and decidedly low-budget, the acting is surprisingly good, the editing effective and memorable, and the script realistic and relevant--conversations and reactions sound just like students I know. Clear, factual information is presented about the physical and social consequences of smoking, and practical solutions are offered for making the right choices and sticking to them. The distributor's philosophy states "we believe kids learn more when they learn from each other." I agree, and hope more kids get the chance to make videos like this--the results are very good.
