He goes, "Poetry is the possibility of language. Romance is the possibility of love, and when the romance is gone from a marriage, it really means the possibilities have disappeared." Or something soulful like that and I go, "Hey, this could be interesting." Cocky Renaissance black man Darius (Larenz Tate) has some choice perceptiveness in this--boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy cries in beer, gets smart and finds girl again--modern day romance. Touted as a hip When Harry Met Sally, love jones offers an African-American cast of young hipsters who talk about love, commitment, passion and relationships; and--refreshingly--there isn't a junkie, drug dealer, gang-banger, policeman or dead body around anywhere. Patrons looking for a romantic comedy with some genuinely funny lines will find them here (though be warned some are fairly raunchy). For people who like their romances to sizzle, this one is sexysmartcool. Recommended. (N. Plympton)
