This is a well-crafted film for adolescents that speaks clearly to the heart and mind. Terese, a high school student, is in a deteriorating relationship with Mark, a sweet kid with a troubled home life. Terese wants some independence, but Mark clings to her, alternating between affectionate devotion and violent temper tantrums. His emotions finally get the better of him, and he hits Terese at a party in front of their friends, pushing Terese into making a final decision about her future. The acting, especially by the leads, is first rate, and the script is excellent, counterpointing Mark and Terese's relationship with that of fellow teens Kelly and Benson, who are in a different, more subtle kind of abusive situation. The kids convey the video's message about unhealthy relationships with wonderful clarity and sincerity. One important caveat: the language is strong, including some words commonly heard around the playground but not the classroom. Despite that, this is highly recommended and an Editor's Choice.
