Timed to coincide with the summer release of Hollywood's live-action Max Steel, this animated film tells the origin story of the titular superhero. After high school student Maxwell McGrath moves with his widowed mother to a new town and school, he discovers that he is endowed with Turbo Energy—the greatest power in the universe. It turns out that Max's late father was working on a way to harness Turbo Power with the aid of Steel, a winged robot that shares its consciousness with Max, magnifying his super-abilities. Together, Max and Steel (and various others) collaborate to battle a villainous corporation that is trying to drain the life force out of young people. Nonstop action, zippy one-liners, and a likable teen defender of all things virtuous make this an engaging and fun watch. Recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
