Maximum Van Damage it ain't as Jean Claude takes on the identity of his dead twin brother to uncover an international conspiracy involving Russian mobsters and the FBI. Natasha Henstridge (Van Damme's equal in thespian gifts, which is faint praise indeed) plays the love interest. Bad accents, predictable fight scenes (with the exception of one bathhouse free-for-all in which nobody's towel drops, contrary to all the known laws of physics), and dialogue which makes soap operas sound like Nabokov, all add up to a maximum waste of 101 minutes. Not recommended. (R. Pitman)[Blu-ray Review—Aug. 19, 2008—Sony, 100 min., R, $28.95—Making its first appearance on Blu-ray, 1996’s Maximum Risk sports a decent transfer with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound. The only extras here are a BD Live link (but no new content online at present) and trailers. Bottom line: a sparse extras package for a dud action flick.]
