Mifune

Ashamed of his poor, rural upbringing, a fast-rising Copenhagen yuppie (Anders W. Berthelsen) tells his new wife and in-laws that he has no living relatives. But in this latest (and least bizarre) movie from the Danish Dogme 95 Collective (which has produced such films as Breaking the Waves, The Celebration, and Dancing in the Dark), he's forced by his father's untimely death to abandon his bride and return to the dilapidated farm of his youth. With a funeral to arrange, a severely autistic brother (Jesper Asholt) to tend to, and a run-down farm to unload, he begins to re-examine his priorities as he trudges through mothballed emotional baggage with a beautiful hooker-cum-housekeeper (Iben Hjejle) hired on to help clean up. Written and directed by Soren Kragh-Jacobsen, Mifune is well-acted and adequately immersing, but not memorable. Optional. (R. Blackwelder)
