Jake Szymanski's ultra-raunchy wedding comedy stars Zac Efron and Adam DeVine as brothers Dave and Mike Stangle, respectively, a couple of frantic girl-chasers who habitually attend family gatherings, act like nitwits, and hit on all of the women present. After their father orders them to bring dates to their sister's wedding in Hawaii, the brothers advertise, and then choose a couple of ultra-vulgar, alcoholic druggies—Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza)—who impersonate respectable career women in order to appear as the perfect choices. Things go wrong, of course, as the girls find it increasingly difficult to keep up their pose, and the dimwit quartet nearly manage to derail the wedding ceremony entirely until they work together to put it back on track. The film's sole distinction is that instead of concentrating on an all-male or all-female group of dingbats, it serves up obnoxious nincompoops on both sides of the gender divide. Whether Mike and Dave or Alice and Tatiana are the more reprehensible examples of humanity is about the only subject of debate that the movie offers. Not recommended. [Note: DVD/Blu-ray extras include audio commentary by director Jake Szymanski, deleted scenes (24 min.), a “Line-O-Rama” segment (10 min.), an alternate storyline pig sequence (8 min.), a “Bits on Bits on Bits” series of clips (6 min.), a gag reel (6 min.), a photo gallery, and trailers. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release are extended scenes (40 min.), Funny or Die shorts (7 min.), and bonus DVD and digital copies of the film. Bottom line: a solid extras packages for a lame comedy.] (F. Swietek)
