Films about writers are often exceedingly dull, but films about poets are invariably worse. This tedious French import is mostly an extended monologue and occasional dialogue by or between Antonin Artaud (Sami Frey) and his poet friend Jacques Prevel. Artaud is a laudanum guzzling, cancer-ridden, mental asylum patient and Prevel is...well...an aspiring poet. There are flashes of insight here, but they're bookended by long stretches of semi-coherent monotony, during which I found myself longing for more stimulating conversation (so I called for my dog). Not recommended. (R. Pitman0
