Using a parole hearing as the framework, Out of the Night tells the story of a gifted man's struggle with good and evil, his acceptance of responsibility, and ultimately, his spiritual and worldly triumph. Stephen Arrington's exemplary naval career came to an end when he was court martialed for dealing marijuana. After his discharge, he became involved in cocaine drug runs, was caught in a sting operation, and wound up in federal prison where he turned to God for help in accepting personal responsibility for his actions. Arrington was eventually released and became chief expedition diver for the Cousteau Society. Tightly plotted and skillfully scripted, the film features genuine suspense, effective use of metaphor (repeated water imagery) and excellent photography. Highly recommended as an outstanding example of an inspirational educational Christian program. A companion program, aimed at young people, is also available entitled Arrington Live. Aud: J, H, P. (J. Reed)
