I was genuinely entertained in the middle of this sprawling, repetitious celebration of redneck yuks and Newport, Kentucky, but I'm a recognized insensitive lout. It's hard to imagine, on the other hand, a library patron base that wouldn't manifest complaints about Wayne's diatribes against the unfortunate, the un-white and women. Wayne's shtick is one of a sort of bemused bile, much softer than Andrew Dice Clay's, but of a similar bent, which is not to say that the production is without mirth. A couple of totally lame "music" videos open the show, but a Michael Moore-ish video tour of Wayne's native Newport is a highlight; an instantly recognizable, devilish assessment of life in the contemporary hinterlands. Then the repetition takes over; jokes that weren't that funny the first time are just tiresome when repeated (Big Daddy needs to make like Archie Bell & the Drells and tighten up this production). This video will take a place between Dancing Outlaw and Goat Man on my shelf, but for libraries this is not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (M. Tribby)
