Ringo Starr banging the drums on "White Room"? Cream's Jack Bruce laying down the bass line on Peter Frampton's "Show Me the Way"? Bad Company's Simon Kirke keeping the beat on "Yellow Submarine"? To paraphrase Joyce's Molly Bloom, yes, yes, and yes. Filmed in Detroit, this super concert features a band comprised of all of the above, plus Procol Harum's Gary Brooker on keyboards and Mark Rivera on "everything else." Hits include Starr's "It Don't Come Easy," "The No No Song," "You're Sixteen" and "Photograph"; Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and "I Feel Free"; Peter Frampton's (who--remember the Frampton Comes Alive double-LP cover?--is considerably less golden locked) "Do You Feel Like I Do?" and "Baby, I Love Your Way"; Bad Company's "Shooting Star"; Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Conquistador"; and Beatles favorites such as "Norwegian Wood" and "With a Little Help From My Friends." And--yes--there is a kind of aging rock star circus aspect to the proceedings which makes you want to hang up your bellbottoms. On the other hand, the songs are still great songs, and the line-up is admittedly unusual. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
