An American rockabilly no-brainer. Directed by Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Desperado), Roadracers is a fun film packed with '50s flavor about teenagers in cars. David Arquette is well cast as "Dude," a brooding, chain-smoking stud, and Salma Hayek stars as Donna, Dude's rebellious roller-skating girlfriend from the wrong side of the border. Together they face the wrath of Teddy Leather and his police dad, Sarge, after Teddy's girlfriend's hair is set on fire by Dude and company. The real dilemma arises when Dude has to choose between being in an ultra-cool rock band and his darling Donna. While this sock hop and hoodlum saga is decidedly predictable, Roadracers' campy backdrop and one-liners allows for comedic relief. This well-produced movie with B-grade sensibility is not for all but certainly worth a test drive. Optional. (A. Glover)
