Comedian-author-actor Sandra Bernhard is as astute and acerbic a commentator on American pop culture as we have today. Her wide-ranging intellect, innate hipness and truly vicious wit provide her with all the right stuff to launch some very pointed satire. In this filmed version of her one-woman Broadway show, which originally aired in a shorter version on HBO, Bernhard takes the stage about six months pregnant and delivers a brilliant, witty performance that puts a hurtin' on several notable personages. Rock diva and aspiring actress Courtney Love is subjected to an extended deconstruction that is a masterpiece of confessional satire. Other targets and subjects include Rosie O'Donnell, Mariah Carey and Fleetwood Mac, and the vapid world of fashion models, not to mention a hilarious account of an encounter with a hashish cookie in Amsterdam. Be advised that Bernhard's language during her performance is sexually explicit and evinces a working knowledge of all the most popular obscene words in the English language. Cautiously recommended.
