Here's a novel concept: horny teens take a road trip with the aim of losing their virginity. Director Sean Anders' Sex Drive has the dubious honor of being nastier than the three or four similarly-themed 2008 releases (indeed, connoisseurs of potty humor will appreciate the veritable golden cascade of urine jokes). Nerdy 18-year-old Ian (Josh Zuckerman) is a cookie-cutter loser who has never been kissed and dresses up in a doughnut costume to make money at a fast-food joint. During his off hours, Ian trolls the Internet for girls and eventually develops an online relationship with an out-of-state hottie whom he hopes to visit in person. Unfortunately, Ian lacks wheels, so out of desperation he “borrows” the impeccably preserved 1969 GTO owned by his handsome but dumb older brother (James Marsden). Accompanied by best friends Lance (Clark Duke) and Felicia (Amanda Crew), Ian sets out to visit his waiting cyberhoney. While the resulting antics are mostly predictable (as is the not-so-surprising climactic “reveal”), the characters here are a little better developed than usual for the genre, with Seth Green's sarcastic Amish guy being both unpredictable and hilarious. Optional. [Note: DVD/Blu-ray extras include audio commentary by director Sean Anders, writer John Morris, and producer Bob Levy, a 19-minute “Killing Time in Hollywood (Florida)” behind-the-scenes featurette (absent from the Blu-ray release), a 12-minute “making-of” featurette, “The Marsden Dilemma” featurette on costar James Marsden (5 min.), a “Clark: Duke of the Internet” featurette on costar Clark Duke (4 min.), and trailers. Bottom line: a decent extras package for an uneven comedy.] (E. Hulse)
