That Steve Martin can make even the worst films watchable is a testament to his talent. But it's still a shame that ridiculous films such as Sgt. Bilko are the only outlet for his shtick. Martin plays an army sergeant who runs illicit money-making scams from his barracks. But when his job is threatened by a vindictive major (Phil Hartman), Bilko must find new and improved ways to lie and cheat. Sgt. Bilko tries too hard to appeal to the lowest common denominator and...succeeds. Not recommended. (L. Russo)
