This above-average entry in the Slayers anime series finds our heroine-sorceresses, waifish redhead Lina and raven-haired, voluptuous Naga, on a near-impossible challenge after they use a pair of discount tickets to travel to the mysterious island of Mipross. Burdened for centuries by a spell that has kept its terrible secrets from the rest of the world, Mipross greets the girls with evil sorceresses, monster jellyfish, a Dreamweaver's spell, and much more. The script runs a little deeper than usual for Slayers, with a plot that turns on the workings of time and memory to create a strangely moving little film that also has all the exotic and comic-ironic hallmarks of other Slayers adventures. Rated 13-up, this dual-language disc includes a commentary track by the English-language voice actors who play Lina and Naga. Recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
