Stomp, the extraordinarily popular off-Broadway stage hit, featured a troupe of gifted percussionists using ordinary objects (brooms, trashcan lids, etc.) to create a mellifluous medley of foot-tapping rhythms. Stomp Out Loud, filmed for HBO, takes the show outside onto the street...and above. Opening with an amazing piece featuring the performers dangling from a massive billboard frame loaded with metal lids and various-sized plastic containers, high up, over Manhattan, this stunning musical odyssey rolls through the cityscape ingeniously transforming everyday life into poetry with a beat. Viewers will see a deftly choreographed lunch break card game, a veritable orchestra comprised of the "instruments" in a commercial kitchen, and a street symphony played with bouncing basketballs, as well as the trademark broom-and-trashcan-lid set piece. Forget Karen Findley's nude chocolate-smearing stage shows, this is true performance art. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: H, C, P. (R. Pitman)
