An environmental terrorist named Admiral Red and his ultra-powerful UX submarine are demolishing the Peace Keeping Navy (PKN), an international submarine force, until Red is stopped by an old, bucket-of-bolts Japanese sub, the 707, and its unassuming hero, Captain Hayami. Unfortunately, the 707 is destroyed and Hayami retires to a quiet family life--though not for long, as the 707 is rebuilt and modernized, and Hayami is pressed into service again to track down Red. Presented in widescreen, this anime adventure is an artistic marvel, at times quite beautiful and splendid in its detailed rendering of underwater ocean currents. The fantasy element is wonderful, too, in a world where submarines are always at the ready, with each bearing its own distinctive look. Rated 13-up, the dual-language Submarine 707 Revolution is a very entertaining production that should appeal to more general audiences as well as anime fans. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
