The recent success of Almost Famous is likely the only reason Fox decided to rescue this 1998 dramedy from an eternity in their studio 'archives.' Written by The Doors co-scripter Randall Jahnson, this early '70s-set sex, drugs and rock 'n' roller, centering on a group of seven friends all vying to be the next big thing along L.A.'s famed Sunset ("the ultimate address for a dream") Strip, is as dull as, well, it sounds. The only performance of some note is that of relative newcomer Anna Friel, seen here in a thankless "whore with a heart of gold" role. Fans of the period (yeah, you know who you are!) will likely revel in the moldy soundtrack, but Sunset Strip is abusing its good name. Not recommended. (S. C. Sickles)
