Based on a junkie's diary that was found in a Bronx apartment, Sweet Nothing follows the life of Angelo (Michael Imperioli), a family man-turned-drug dealer and, eventually, user. As his world slowly destructs, he's only left with his addiction. Academy Award-winner Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) plays his wife, a woman torn between her love for her husband and her children's safety. Directed by Gary Winick, this modest effort has nothing to say about the nature of addiction that Leaving Las Vegas, Kids, or The Basketball Diaries hasn't covered better. That aside, the film does feature decent performances from Imperioli and Sorvino, and Winick manages to tell a coherent story. Optional. (L. Russo)
