What can you say about a tribute to Kurt Cobain that features not a lick of Nirvana's music (at least performed by Nirvana)? Not much. The list of interviewees is slim: a Village Voice reporter, the owner of the Sub Pop label that launched Nirvana, and rock photographer Charles Peterson all offer tidbits, accompanied by sound bites from fans. These must be the "exclusive interviews" and "original footage" referred to on the video jacket, since most of the sparse video clips actually featuring Cobain or Nirvana are readily available on the vastly superior Nirvana Live! Tonight! Sold Out! made before his death in 1994. I think the real "spirit" alluded to in the title is best summed up by the cover photo of Nirvana's Nevermind, which featured a baby swimming towards a dollar bill on a fish hook. Take my advice: don't bite. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
