Holy rip-off, Batman! Ok, so The Adventures of El Frenetico & Go Girl is not exactly a carbon copy of the Caped Crusader's adventures against larger-than-life Gotham City thugs (for one thing, El Frenetico--though he does wear a cape and mask--is a more on-the-wagon-than-off alcoholic), but it's still pretty darn close. In the first of three live-action half-hour episodes included on the tape, the titular crimestoppers are pitted against snack food king Heinrich Syphon, who plans to turn the local populace into wax figures via nasty formula-enriched cupcakes. Did I laugh once or twice? Yes, I did. Once or twice. Too copycat-ish to work as parody, and not nearly as exciting as even the TV Batman (let alone the big screen efforts), this is not a necessary purchase. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
