"You know fellas, I've realized something here tonight. Maybe women aren't the problem. Maybe it's us." With dialogue that insipid, do you really need to know anything more about The Brothers before moving on to the next review? An ironically misogynistic Waiting to Exhale-style talker disguised as a male-oriented buddy picture, this is the latest in a string of predictable films about yuppie African-American guys slowly realizing that maybe being a player isn't what life's all about. These particular guys--Morris Chestnut, D. L. Hughley, Bill Bellamy and Shemar Moore--come across like they're freebasing estrogen, yapping endlessly and therapeutically about their fear of commitment and their relationships with women, even as the movie itself suggests that oral sex is the key to a happy marriage and that women with any sexual history before meeting Mr. Right are whores. A feeble, weightless piece of malignant psychobabble, this is not recommended. (R. Blackwelder)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
