Liverwurst and losers. Set in the shadow of New York City in Union, NJ, The Deli is an off-beat story about a man whose betting habits lead him neck-deep into debt. At risk of losing his family's Italian deli, Johnny (Mike Starr) wagers everything on an important catering gig and a long-shot bet. Good laughs and occasionally clever dialogue make this a mildly entertaining film. (Where else will salami, a compulsive gambler, and the model Iman come together in celluloid glory?) Unfortunately, neither the under-developed characters nor the story is very interesting. Not recommended. (A. Glover)
