After his mother dies, young Collin (Edward Furlong) whiles away the days with his aunts, stuffy businesswoman Verena (Sissy Spacek) and romantic dreamer Dolly (Piper Laurie). After harsh words are spoken between the women, Dolly, Collin, and other stragglers move into a treehouse, ultimately upsetting the frigid mores of the whole town. Based on the Truman Capote novel, The Grass Harp is both poignant and thoughtful with beautiful photography and heartfelt performances, though occasionally slow moving. A strong optional purchase. (L. Russo)[DVD Review--April 5, 2005--New Line, 107 min., PG, $19.98--Making its debut on DVD, 1996's The Grass Harp is presented in a handsome widescreen transfer with DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1, and stereo surround options, but no extras besides trailers. Bottom line: no extras, but the film remains a strong optional purchase.]
