A British import classified as a thriller, The Innocent Sleep trots out the old cat and mouse game when a homeless man named Alan (Rupert Graves) who witnesses a mob-related murder is, himself, noticed by the killers. When the newspapers report the crime as a suicide, Alan becomes determined to expose the truth. Since the local Chief Inspector is in cahoots with the mob, Alan pairs up with journalist Billie Hayman (Annabella Sciorra) who helps him unravel the web of corruption by writing an investigative story. While the two are playing Matlock, the Inspector is out hunting for Alan's head. Though the plot seems simple enough, the details get lost in the shuffle, resulting in a somewhat confusing and unbelievable film. Not a necessary purchase. (M. K. Lau)
