Perhaps some might think this is much ado about nothing (no wait, that's Seinfeld), but this dramatization of Bill Carter's chronicle of the campaign to succeed Johnny Carson is, as the king of late night might say, weird, compelling stuff. Daniel Roebuck as Jay Leno and John Michael Higgins as David Letterman, seem to catch the essence of these two inscrutable personalities. Treat Williams is positively Corleonesque as Hollywood superagent Mike Ovitz. But no one in this movie is a match for Kathy Bates as Helen Kushnik, Leno's pit bull of an agent who serves him steak while not showing him how she slaughters the cows. Highly recommended. (K.
