Who would have ever guessed that heavy-metal rocker Jon Bon Jovi would leave his long hair and middle-American personae behind for short hair and a career in independent film? In this sophisticated drama, Bon Jovi gives an intoxicatingly seductive performance as Robin Grange, a popular American actor who goes to London to star in "England's greatest living playwright," Felix Webb's (Lambert Wilson) latest production. In addition to his thespian duties, Felix hires Grange to seduce his wife (played by Anna Galiena), so that the director will be free to continue his affair with one of his young actresses. As time passes, however, Felix discovers that Grange's aggressive tentacles reach much farther into his life than just the conjugal bed. John Duigan, who also directed Sirens, smartly spins a Hitchcockian web of intrigue in this sexy and intellectually engaging effort. Recommended. (A. Glover)
