You've come a long way, babies. This feature film based on the Emmy award-winning Rugrats, Nickelodeon's most popular series, became the highest-grossing non-Disney animated feature ever. The popularity of the franchise and the price make purchase a no-brainer. But excuse me if I don't agree with a diapered character's assessment that "this is more fun than picking noses." Tommy Pickles' world is turned-upside-down with the arrival of a new baby brother, a crying, screaming, pooping nightmare who commands all of his parents' attention. When he and his friends Chuckie and twins Phil and Lil try to return the infant to the "hop-sickle," they get lost in the woods, where they must band together to survive such dangers as whitewater rapids, runaway circus monkeys and a wolf. I don't think senior citizens will appreciate the portrayal of the grandfather as a senile, irresponsible caretaker. I don't understand why a story with universal appeal (adapting to a new sibling) was tricked up with cliffhanging brushes with death. And fans of Rugrats breakout character, Angelica, will be disappointed with her small role. But that's just me. Maybe it's a toddler thing. (K. Lee Benson)
