Armed with the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, Captain Kellie and her elite blue squad fight General Fear and his sword machine (with which he proposes to eliminate the Christian "good news.") A feature-length, action/science-fiction film, The Sword conveys the message that those without a personal relationship with God can be deceived into thinking that bad things are good, but superkids (i.e., Christians) are quick to pray, listen to God and thereby prevail over the mightiest of weapons. A lavishly produced film, featuring lively Christian music and abundant special effects, this will certainly appeal to young audiences, even though the dialog and acting lack any subtlety. However, a strong merchandising tie-in for CD's, books and apparel somewhat undercuts the traditional Christian message. Optional. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
