Whoopi Goldberg, who has a soft spot for sci-fi, stars in this futuristic boxoffice flop as a tough cop with a dinosaur named Teddy Rex for a rookie partner. When a dino turns up face down (and tail up), Katie Coltrane (Goldberg) and Teddy go hunting for the killer, while fending off armies of zombie-like creatures on skateboards who are led by a very hammy Bud Cort. There's mad scientist at the end of the trail (which the audience suspects from the get), who has--you guessed it--evil plans for the Earth's destruction. Hard to believe, but the dino looks more comfortable and natural than his partner...another oops for Whoopi. Not a necessary purchase. (R. Pitman)[DVD Review--July 15, 2003--New Line, PG, $14.98--To quote Norah Jones: don't know why New Line is wheeling this out on DVD (maybe we're closer to the proverbial bottom of the barrel than I thought). For what it's worth, the image and sound qualities are very good on this otherwise unimpressive release that features "extras" that actually amount to little more than promos for other New Line family-oriented titles: namely, a "pick that flick" game leading to short New Line trailers, four extra New Line trailers, and DVD-ROM content that takes you to New Line's site but has nothing to do with Theodore Rex. Bottom line: skimpy extras for a wimpy family film that should appeal to Whoopi Goldberg completists only.]
