A genuinely spectacular waste of money, Thir13en Ghosts (yes, that's the spelling) has nothing going for it beyond the wildly excessive production design embodied in the film's true star--an all-glass haunted house created by an evil ghostbuster (F. Murray Abraham) to be a combination phantasm prison and gateway to hell. Inherited by a widower (Tony Shalhoub) and his kids, the house traps a cast of screaming B-list actors inside, then lets out a baker's dozen of half-decayed, psycho-killer apparitions to slay them. First-time helmer Steve Beck toys randomly with camera speeds and echo-chamber sound effects, apparently unaware that his cast is drowning in a quagmire of imbecilic contrivances that should insult even the least demanding horror movie fan.
