An excruciatingly unfunny, frequently repulsive film, Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie is an expansion of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim's cult cable sketch comedy Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! In the absurd plot, the two stooges waste a billion dollars earmarked for making a movie, after which ruthless investors demand their cash back. As a means of raising money, the duo take over the management of a derelict mall. A fair amount of wasted talent is on display here, including Zach Galifianakis as the pair's avaricious guru, Will Ferrell as the mall's sleazy owner, Ray Wise as a weird self-styled healer, Will Forte as the ill-tempered owner of a sword shop, Jeff Goldblum as a commercial huckster, and John C. Reilly as a perpetually sick man-child who haunts the place. The first hour of Billion Dollar Movie is simply wretched, although Tim's over-enthusiastic “adoption” of the young son of a “toilet paper recycler” crosses over into awfully creepy. But the last half-hour is genuinely disgusting, including a particularly revolting episode in which Wareheim literally takes a bath in excrement. Not recommended. [Note: DVD/Blu-ray extras include audio commentary by filmmakers and stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, an interview with Heidecker and Wareheim (23 min.), extended scenes (19 min.), deleted scenes (9 min.), a “Good Evening S'Wallow Valley” behind-the-scenes featurette (9 min.), five promos (5 min.), an HDNet production featurette (4 min.), the “Shrim Dance” screensaver, posters, a photo gallery, and trailers. Bottom line: a solid extras package for a terrible film.] (F. Swietek)
