Remarkably, completely, and palpably (not to mention amusingly) capturing the carefree spirit of commune life in 1970s Stockholm--and the cancerous human nature that threatens the hippie bliss--writer/director Lukas Moodysson's Together finds a milquetoast member's suburban housewife sister and kids joining the communal family in order to escape an abusive home, just as selfishness and lack of conviction begin to break down the group's already lax structure. Boasting a great ensemble cast and a brilliantly authentic atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the "family," this 2000 Swedish sleeper--which is being released on DVD only, with little fanfare or publicity--is warmly recommended.
