If you're looking for substance and intellectual insight, better not stop here. Jada Pinkett Smith (Scream 2, The Nutty Professor) and Tommy Davidson (Booty Call) star in this romantic comedy that's full of hilarious laughs and sexy appeal--if you're in the mood for a frivolous fling. Smith plays Woo, a party-lovin' diva who's searching for Mr. Right. When she consults her "Tarot Daddy," and discovers that "tonight's the night," she takes a chance on blind date Tim (Davidson)--a paralegal nicknamed Macaulay Culkin (because he stays home alone). Together the pair are more like a Dating Game mismatch than Romeo and Juliet. But as the night rolls on, Woo and Tim find they have much more in common than just three-letter first names. With a slick cast, including rap artists LL Cool J and Foxy Brown, and funny, light-hearted scenes, Woo does have the charming potential to, well, woo its viewers. An optional purchase. (M. K. Lau)[DVD Review--Jan. 26, 2004--New Line, 84 min., R, $19.98--Making its debut on DVD, the 1998 film Woo features a decent transfer, overall (although a bit dark and/or soft in spots), with both widescreen and full screen versions, and a Dolby Digital 5.1 or stereo soundtrack, but no extras. Bottom line: extras or not, this is still a so-so romantic romp.]
