I first saw this video at my obstetrician's office. Seeing it again, I remain impressed with both the overall production quality and the amount of information covered in the short run time. Topics include baby's hunger signals, latching on, three classic holds for nursing, monitoring the baby's weight gain, and tips for breastfeeding working mothers. Animated graphics are employed to show how the breasts produce milk, as well as how the baby consumes it, and the multi-ethnic mother and baby cast make the tape widely appealing. The only mild criticism is that several of the babies shown are not properly latched on, with their mouths fully covering the areola (probably due to being taped at the crew's convenience, rather than the babies' tummy schedules). While not an argument for nursing, such as The Benefits of Breastfeeding (VL-11/00), this is highly recommended for covering the how-to's in a clear, accessible way. As an added plus, the program is also available in a Spanish-language version. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
