First off, you don't have to be a woman to appreciate A Woman's Guide to Automotive Maintenance. You can be anybody that's tired of getting slapped with $50 bills for replacing a hose. This excellent nuts and bolts guide covers preventive and minor repair maintenance: necessary tools; checking fluids (oil, transmission, brake, etc.); changing tires, oil, oil filters, air filters, radiator hoses, headlights, taillights, fan belts, and fuses; and checking battery terminals. It also covers the various warning lights (electrical/temperature/brake), and what you can fix (and when it's time to call a mechanic); the proper way to 'jump start' your car; and what to do when the engine floods. An independent production by Mark and Marion Smith, the technical quality of the film is good (especially the close-ups). The only minor flaw is the muddy sound when Marion is standing outside (everything else is done with voiceover); but this happens only a few times, and the scenes are very short. A 10-page reference guide is included with the tape. Recommended for all public libraries. (Available from: MPM Productions, P.O. Box 6891, San Carlos, CA 94070).

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
