Acrylic Painting: Getting a Start

Part of the Art is...video series, Acrylic Painting is geared toward helping someone with little or no background in art learn the techniques of painting with acrylics. Artist and educator Stephen Quiller begins with teaching the unique characteristics of acrylics as compared to other mediums, how to select and care for brushes, and making a simple palette from freezer paper. He then demonstrates three methods of applying acrylics: transparent, translucent, and opaque, while showing how to create a landscape, a still life, and a cityscape. Quiller also covers how to select appropriate colors for the best results.Overall, this is a good, solid art instruction video, with fine close-up shots of carefully demonstrated techniques that are used in simple novice-oriented projects.
