For vocational tips in a field where superficialities like snappy attire and architecturally challenging coiffures are rather important, recent productions are a must. This briskly paced, fashion-conscious effort qualifies, adopting the appearance of an infotainment confection, complete with squeaky-clean hosts, talking-head experts (a casting director, an agent, etc.) and apparently successful--if little known--actors in the flesh. My favorite talking heads were skanky wipes-his-nose-on-his-sleeve guy, a font of sad truths for actors that sure takes some of the glamour off the thespian life; and ludicrous, hurly-burly casting-executive-guy who pontificates at length about time management. He's a busy, important dynamo so don't piss him off...BE ON TIME!!! Although this is a non-enity as entertainment, at least the contrived slice-of-life skits are seamlessly woven into the flow. Overall, however, this program offers enough realistic advice to make it a strong, optional purchase for those looking to replace older titles such as How to Conquer Hollywood (VL-3/93) or How to Break Into Movies, Television & Commercials (VL-1/95). Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
