Designed to help children learn their addition and subtraction facts (for sums and differences from 0-18), Addition and Subtraction Rock features a rock band (drummer, guitar, 2 lead vocals) playing 10 songs, each of which incorporate a math drill using a delayed response which is then flashed on the screen. Playing against a background filled with psychedelic special effects reminiscent of the late ‘60s, the band's tunes, such as "Adding Up" (sums to 10), "Take Away" (subtracting 0 or 1), and "Big Number Add" (sums to 18), sound as if they were cranked out in a hurry one weekend and do not easily bear repeated listenings. A good concept, with decent visuals, this is still an optional purchase, at best (and Sesame Street's Count need not worry about being supplanted anytime soon). Aud: E, P. (L. Stevens)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
