Made in Montreal, this mostly English-language guide (with some scenarios played out in their original French with English subtitles) is aimed at parents and educators. Narrated by June Wallack and hosted by Richard Robitaille—who provide context for the various sections—Aggression in Young Children notes that regardless of whether a child exhibits aggressive tendencies from the start or develops them over time, these behaviors present a challenge to peers and caretakers alike (and even non-aggressive children become a factor when they encourage or reward aggressive behavior in friends and classmates). Fortunately, for most children, the development of language skills between the ages of 3 and 5 coincides with a decrease in aggression. Also, proactive and reactive aggression naturally call for different responses. While the first disc of this double-disc set concentrates on presenting background information, the second suggests a range of disciplinary and preventative measures. Speakers include Dr. Jan Van Hooff (Utrecht University), Dr. Kate Keenan (University of Chicago), and Dr. Richard Tremblay (University of Montreal). As this is an interactive guide—featuring exercises and quizzes—all of the segments are accessed separately (there is no “play all” option). Recommended. Aud: K, E, C, P. (K. Fennessy)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
