Biomechanics expert Katy Bowman is back with another intriguing instructional guide to using proper biomechanics in order to make the human body function more efficiently and avoid common diseases and chronic pain. Bowman points out that there are 650 muscles in our bodies, designed not only for strength but also to help with optimal functioning of blood circulation and the nervous and lymph systems. If biomechanics are compromised through poor posture and wrong movement, things can go weird, as millions of back pain sufferers can attest. Bowman here demonstrates all kinds of exercises to restore balance, including calf and ankle stretches, head ramping, rhomboid pushups, and spinal twisting. Not as exotic as they sound, these exercises could bring some relief to those plagued by physical discomfort from back pain, especially the garden variety type stemming from a sedentary lifestyle.
