While much of the information presented in this informative guide is important for general health, biomechanical scientist and host Katy Bowman has diabetics in mind as the specific beneficiaries of the body-realignment exercises she explains and demonstrates. Proceeding from the idea that many people don't move the way their bodies were designed to, Bowman says it's easy to become discouraged during physical activity because improper motion can lead to pain and injuries. Exercise that is not only appropriate for joints and muscles but also relieves pressure where it tends to build actually makes one more likely to work out—which is good for increasing metabolism and minimizing stress. Here, the movements are also aimed at helping diabetics deal with issues such as sugar management, lower-leg circulation, and neuropathy. The exercises start with physical realignment in lower extremities, after which everything else—including work on back, shoulders, and arms—becomes easier. Recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
