Meant to help assuage anxiety in youngsters bound for the dentist, Amanda Goes to the Dentist features the titular heroine and her wacky little brother Daniel in a program designed to cover the entire process, from checking in at the receptionist's desk, to picking out a prize before leaving. Along the way, Amanda learns to properly brush and floss with the help of an enthusiastic dental hygienist and alligator puppet with rather human teeth; undergoes X-rays; receives a cleaning with "Mr. Thirsty" and a fluoride treatment with "Mr. Tickle"; and even discovers what causes bad breath. While the program attempts to be creative, serving up cool sound effects and funny vintage black-and-white film clips that are somehow dentist-related, overall this video suffers from amateurish lighting and sound, and slow-paced editing. A much better choice here would be A Trip to the Dentist Can Be Lots of Fun! (VL-11/00). Optional. Aud: E, P. (E. Gieschen)
