In reviewing my notes on this video, I got a little kick. In the margins I'd drawn a cat, a raccoon and an elephant. Not only were these scribbles still recognizable to me, these creatures were actually identified correctly by two out of three paid observers. Fran Riddell is the cartoonist, narrator, and disembodied hand which viewers see sketching some incredibly easy pictures in this program on drawing cartoon animals. A tight camera shot on a large piece of paper is used throughout to demonstrate how Riddell, using a black marker, draws the aforementioned animals, as well as a dog, bear, bird, and a mouse. Riddell shows viewers how to fix boo-boos (if a dog has uneven eyes, draw a big circle around one of them, color it in and name him "Spot") and also adds a bit of color to finish off some of her drawings. Toward the end of the tape, we also see oodles of ideas for presents such as homemade bookmarks, cute picture frames, gift tags and cards, posters and glue magnets using simple household stuff like Popsicle sticks, glue and construction paper. Unfortunately, the production values are minimal, with substandard audio in the introduction, undercutting the fairly strong informational value. Optional. Aud: J, H, P. (N. Plympton)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
