Picture a high school classroom. The lights dim, the VCR flickers into life, and......MTV meets National Geographic. A hip young African-American host begins by discussing his acceptance by the National Science Foundation for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit the continent of Antarctica, a barren, largely uninhabited land of ice and wonder. Believe it or not, students will be hooked as they follow his travels in this educational and entertaining introduction, which asks and answers the kinds of questions most teenagers would ask if they had the chance, such as: "Why study weather conditions in a place where no one lives?" and "Why spend so much money looking at stuff that froze millions of years ago?" Teachers will find this video a "cool" introduction to Antarctica. Recommended. Aud: H. (J. Carlson)
