In case you didn't know it, most superheroes have pretty wide "wings," which is defined by instructor Charles Harris as "the muscle under your armpit that connects the arm to the rest of the body." While I suspect that Gray's Anatomy uses different terminology for this muscle, this is not a guide to drawing guys like Woody Allen; nope, the male body shown here is more like Arnold Schwarzenegger's after an afternoon pumping iron. Using fine overhead camerawork and restrained--but solid--instruction, Harris teaches viewers how to draw a bulked-up male body from both the front and side positions, offering both general and comic-book specific pointers along the way. Ultimately, it's the comic-book angle that separates this video and the others in the series (such as Aliens, Monsters, Super Heroes, and the more advanced Drawing Non-Humanoid Aliens) paired with the exceptionally affordable price (reduced for libraries) that makes this title and the series in general a solid choice for budding young Todd McFarlane's eager to create the next Spawn. Recommended. (R. Pitman)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
