Nationally known sculptor and teacher Arlene Siegel is the instructor for this hands-on demonstration of the art of sculpting. Siegel, who describes her art as "bouncing off light and catching shadows," takes viewers through a step-by-step real time sculpture of a bust. After describing the necessary tools and discussing aspects of clay, Siegel creates the head of a young child, demonstrating along the way special techniques for making realistic eye sockets, cheekbones, ears, and hair. Siegel concludes with tips for the drying and kiln firing process. Excellent video and audio qualities, as well as detailed close-ups of Siegel working, make this a good choice for public libraries with large arts and crafts collections. Highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
