These two programs, developed by Dr. Helen Marx, OTR, provide practical help and advice for people suffering from arthritis. Hosted by Stu Brackney, each program features an overview of the specific type of arthritis, followed by a detailed description of the anatomy of the hand (as it relates to the particular form of arthritis) by Robert Lumsden, M.D. Each program concludes with a set of practical suggestions for easing pressure on the arthritic joints. As pointed out in both tapes, anatomical changes to the hands caused by arthritis cannot be corrected, but there are methods for controlling symptoms: ways to pick up books or open milk cartons using the palms; various tools, such as loop scissors, which reduce the need for gripping, etc. The video and audio qualities of both programs are very good. Recommended. (Available from: Video Education Specialists, 1309 E. Northern Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85020.)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
